Will Pressure Washing Remove Oil Stains?

Your garage and driveway floors can easily get stained with oil from your cars. Oil stains are stubborn and hard to get rid of, even with the strongest cleaning agents. So how do you get rid of them? It’s simple! Pressure washing is the best way to get rid of all types of stains, including oil stains. But you may have to use an additional cleaner for the best results.

How does Pressure Washing Remove Oil Stains?

If you’re planning on removing oil stains by pressure washing, the first thing you’ll need is, of course, a pressure washer. You can always purchase one, but if that does not seem like a feasible option to you, you can rent one out. There are electric-powered and gas-powered pressure washers available. You can choose between the two.

Now two things are important when using a pressure washer. The first one is the pressure, and the second is the water flow. You should set the pressure between 1700 to 2800 PSI (per square inch) for cleaning oil stains. The water flow should be between 1.5 to 2.5 GPM (gallon per minute).

To clean oil stains, you’ll have to use a rotary nozzle to penetrate deep into the surface and remove the stains effectively. You might want to use a cleaning agent for effective stain removal. An ordinary dishwashing liquid soap is sufficient for removing oil stains when using pressure washing.

Before You Begin

Before you start pressure washing, make sure that there aren’t any fragile items nearby that might break. Moreover, you should first sweep the floor to get rid of any debris and dust. Your next step would be to rinse the area you want to clean and apply a cleaning agent to the oil stains. Let it sit for 30 minutes before you start pressure washing. You can even add a cleaning agent inside your pressure washer if needed. Now pressure wash the area with stains till they come off.

Once the stains are removed, ensure you rinse the area to get rid of any residual cleaning agent to prevent corrosion.

Hire Professional Help

If renting or buying a pressure washer isn’t an option for you, you can always go for the third (and the most effective) option: hire professional help.

Hiring experts will ensure that your oil stains are removed effectively, and you don’t have to worry about anything going wrong when pressure washing. Professionals know how to use pressure washers without damaging property (or themselves). The high pressure is enough to cut through the skin.
